Once an item has been sold on Amazon Marketplace it is time to package the item and dispatch it to the buyer. It is also time
to collect payments for sales and ensure purchased items are posted on time.
Upon each successful Marketplace sale, the seller will receive an email confirmation which will display a subject line of
'Sold--dispatch now!'. The seller is then expected to package and post the item within 2 working days of the order date.
The confirmation of sale email will include the buyer's address, so you will know where to dispatch the sold product to.
The price the item was sold for and the commission Amazon will take as part of their fees are also included. Currently, individual
Marketplace sellers will incur a completion fee of £0.86 for each item sold. There is also a closing fee of 17.25% of the sales
price for the item (electronic and photo items incur a closing fee of 11.5%). Pro-merchant subscribers pay a monthly fee
of £28.75 and the same closing fee of 17.25% of the sales price for the item (electronic and photo items incur a closing
fee of 8.05%).
Get paid selling on Amazon Marketplace
When you get paid selling on Amazon Marketplace, The payment is received into an Amazon Payments account for the seller. Each Marketplace seller has their own Amazon Payments account. Amazon Payments is an intermediate account, rather like a paypal account for eBay. This differs to a paypal account for accepting payments in that it is an internal account to Amazon, you cannot transfer money into it like a paypal account. Amazon Payment accounts are solely used to accept money from Marketplace buyers and is not used to make any online purchases such as Amazon itself or other third party shopping websites. Any money accrued in a payments account is automatically transferred to the registered bank account every 14 days. In addition, the money can take a few extra days to transfer. It is also possible, to setup a manual transfer of the accrued funds in between the 14 day automatic payment cycle. There is no need to apply and setup an Amazon payments account separately such as PayPal, this is automatically included as part of the initial registration for a Marketplace Sellers account.
Product Delivery
Buyers will also pay Marketplace delivery rates (part of the sale price), these are predetermined fees the buyer is charged for
minimum postage. The delivery rates vary depending on the type of product (weight and size) and the destination country.
For example, any CD for sale in the Marketplace listings will display the price and also the standard shipping of £1.21 within
the UK. This fee will be part of the overall sale price charged to the buyer.
If the product for dispatching is small, a book perhaps or DVD then it can be posted in a padded jiffy bag. Smaller packages
will be easier to dispatch by posting at the nearest post box or at a local post office. Larger items may need special packing
and taken to a post office to get weighed and processed. Larger items can be left at the post office for dispatching. Always
ensure to double check the item is being dispatched to the correct buyer's delivery address. The next stage is to leave the appropriate
feedback for the buyer. If you have done everything right then the buyer should leave positive feedback which will encourage
future sales.
A-Z safe Buying Guarantee
Buyers are also protected for Marketplace transactions under the A-Z safe Buying Guarantee. This guarantee means a buyer, in the unusual event, can be credited a transaction amount for any refund issues that have not been resolved between the buyer and the seller. The A-Z Buying Guarantee is only applicable if the Amazon Payments system is the method used for Marketplace transactions. Unlike paypal, Amazon Payments do not charge a fee to receive payments into the account but is included in the closing fee for the item sold. It is also worth knowing that Amazon Payments only supports deliveries to certain countries, including the UK, US and many popular European countries - the full list can be found on the amazon.co.uk site.
The Amazon Marketplace feedback system
The Amazon Marketplace feedback system is quite similar to eBay, this provides an indication to future buyers of how reliable you are as a seller and whether you provide a good service. Overall, the feedback system shows all ratings over the past 12 months, in total there are 5 stars which are used to convey your overall rating, 5 stars for the best score to 1 star showing the worst. The average star rating and feedback percentage for sellers is displayed alongside each selling ID for their listings so you can determine now trusted and reliable a particular seller is based on all their past transactions.
More about the Pro-merchants programme
As explained previously, you can open a Pro-merchant Marketplace sellers account if you are a bulk seller and plan to list more than 30 items. Being a Pro-merchant gives several advantages and is similar to the Powerseller status on eBay. You can take advantage of discounted charges, the completion fee for each item is waived upon sale of the item. There is also a lower commission rate on electronics and photo items. Amazon also provides Pro-merchants with management tools to make it easy to upload their inventories rather than relying on the standard listing process for each individual item. As also mentioned there is no limit to the number of items that can be listed online, so you can list more without any extra fees. There is a requirement by Amazon that you are prepared to deliver the best service with prompt communications and delivery times.
